The month of Muharram holds a special place in Islamic history. The 1st of Muharram marks the martyrdom of the second Caliph of Islam, a distinguished Companion of the Prophet ﷺ, the trusted advisor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and one of the greatest leaders in Islamic history—Hazrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (Radiyallahu Anhu).
His life remains a shining example of faith, justice, courage, and unwavering commitment to the truth.
The Prayer of the Prophet ﷺ for Umar (RA)
Before embracing Islam, Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA) was known for his strong personality and influence among the people of Makkah. Recognizing his potential, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prayed:
"O Allah, strengthen Islam through Umar ibn Al-Khattab."

The Honored Titles of Umar Farooq (RA)
Throughout Islamic tradition, Hazrat Umar (RA) has been associated with several noble titles:
On earth, he is known as Umar.
In the heavens, he is recognized as Al-Farooq—the one who distinguishes between truth and falsehood.
In the Torah, he is described as "Manṭiq al-Haqq" (The Speaker of Truth).
In the Gospel, he is referred to as "Kafi."
In Paradise, his title will be "Siraj" (The Lamp).
These titles reflect his extraordinary character, wisdom, and devotion to justice.
Virtues of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA)
A Man of Exceptional Excellence
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The sun has not risen upon a man better than Umar."
This statement highlights the remarkable status and virtues of Umar (RA) among the believers.
Revered by the Angels, Feared by Satan
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed the believers that the angels held Umar (RA) in great honor, while Satan feared him due to the strength of his faith and commitment to righteousness.
His unwavering devotion to Allah made him a symbol of spiritual strength and moral courage.
A Lamp Among the People of Paradise
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Umar is a lamp among the people of Paradise."
This glad tiding reflects the lofty rank that Allah has granted him and the immense rewards awaiting him in the Hereafter.
A Champion of Truth
The Prophet ﷺ once remarked regarding Umar (RA):
"This is a man who does not love falsehood."
Throughout his life, Umar (RA) stood firmly for justice, honesty, and truth, never compromising his principles for personal gain or worldly interests.
Umar (RA) and the Pleasure of Allah
Among the narrations highlighting his unique status is the statement:
"The pleasure of Allah is in the pleasure of Umar, and the pleasure of Umar is in the pleasure of Allah."
This narration reflects the sincerity, piety, and deep alignment of Umar's character with the teachings of Islam.
Truth Upon His Tongue and in His Heart
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
"Allah has placed the truth upon the tongue and in the heart of Umar."
